Film and Music

My music taste is not the coolest in the world.  On being offered the chance to have song played for me live on Uganda’s top radio station, I choose… Spice Girls, 2 become 1.  I personally believe it to be a lifetime classic, not so sure what the DJ thought!

If you’re interested in finding more about the station or want to plan a visit email me and I’ll put you in touch with a lady who should be able to make it happen.

I'd also recommend going to the Monday night Jam Session at the National Theatre in Kampala.  Great atmosphere, great music, different each week.

I met with the brilliant, warm and friendly Hakimu Kiwanuka, pictured in the image top right. (+256 (0)774075546  hakimukiwanuka@yahoo.com).
Hakimu is a local, very talented musician who came with his friend to play for the babies at the Child's i babies home.

Afro-beat / Folk / Fusion artist-  Samual Bakka sbakka99@yahoo.com www.myspace.com/bakkasam +256 (0)752649380is also crucial to get in touch with if you're wanting to get into the Ugandan music scene- again super friendly and helpful.

Both the above musicians were part of the amazing ROCK MUSIC ROCK ART festival supported by the Ruwenzori Sculpture Foundation.  See the excellent documentary on the project HERE and a wee film by invited artist Peter Randall Page below:

I know there is so so much more to see, hear and experience from the Ugandan music and film scene but I could only focus on a few things at a time and look forward to finding out what others discover!
